The Cosmetology Program provides a practical, engaging, and potentially accelerated pathway for individuals to gain the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to thrive in the dynamic and growing beauty industry.

Practical Skills and Job Readiness

  • Students receive hands-on training, providing them with the practical skills needed to enter the workforce upon graduation.
  • Students gain experience in various areas, including hair cutting, coloring, styling, skincare, makeup application, and nail care.
  • They learn salon management, business skills, sanitation practices, client communication, and entrepreneurial skills.

Industry Connections and Experience

Each Career Tech Program has a Business and Industry Advisory Board, a group of professionals from relevant business and industry sectors who advise them on CTE program development and improvement, ensuring that CTE programs align with current workforce needs and provide valuable input on curriculum, equipment, and training.

Fast Track Career Path

  • Cosmetology programs are generally shorter than traditional four-year college degrees, allowing students to enter the job market sooner.
  • While initial earnings may be lower than some other fields, the demand for cosmetologists is projected to grow, with about 89,100 job openings projected each year between 2023 and 2033, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
  • With dedication and ongoing professional development, graduates can build a clientele, specialize in popular services like coloring or medical esthetics, increasing their earning potential.

Higher Graduation Rate and Improved Academic Performance

  • Students who participate in CTE programs, including cosmetology, have significantly higher high school graduation rates compared to the national average.
  • The hands-on learning and practical application of knowledge makes academic subjects more engaging and help students see the relevance of their studies to real-world contexts.

College and Career Readiness

  • Cosmetology provides a strong foundation for continued education in specialized areas or related fields when students pursue further studies after graduation.
  • Students are exposed to labor market information and are better equipped to make informed decisions about their future educational and career paths.

Development of Important Soft Skills

  • Students learn essential soft skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, professionalism, and customer service. These skills are highly valued in the beauty industry, where client interaction and building strong relationships are crucial for success.
